To my eye, these drawings represent impossible shapes. It started from drawing two cubes sharing a side. I can see each cube separately, but the shared side is strange because it belongs to both. As I look at it I try to see the whole thing as one shape. Then the shared side takes on a strange look like a CGI creation of a black hole. Try it.
